Text: Genesis 39:21 (KJV)
MESSAGE
Mercy is not a one-time benevolence received at salvation. It is the main sustaining mechanism to go through our journeys in life without sustaining injuries. Contrary to popular opinion that only the sinners need mercy, I want to say to you that God’s children who have obtained His mercy must continue to receive mercy so as to fulfil their purpose on earth.
It would be worth noting that there would be no need for new mercies every day if that which is received can truly sustain. Lamentation 3:22-23. Practically it is impossible to live our Christian life without His mercy, not because we are none victorious in the matter of sin, but so that in all things we would be more than conquerors.
I wish to lay before you this morning the beautiful story of Joseph and how God had to bring him into serial mercies in order to fulfil His purpose for his life. Joseph would have died a mere dreamer but for the intervention of mercy, Joseph would have been killed and not sold. God put His mercy in the heart of Ruben to preserve his life.
When he got to Egypt, the Lord showed him mercy in Potiphar’s house and in the prison such that he had favour and was in charge of all that Portiphar had, and also in-charge in the prison. If not for mercy, he would have fallen into the evil pot of madam Potiphar and that would have terminated his dream. A man must receive mercy to escape such temptation. Let us not be mistaken, it is not of him that willeth or runneth but of the Lord that shows mercy.
Do you have a big dream for your life or God gave you a mighty promise? Just as Joseph, You must receive His mercies to fulfil your purpose in life.
The word of God speaks to believers to come boldly to the throne of grace to receive mercy, mercy for what? It is mercy for the journey.
If you carefully look through your life, you will see the footprint of mercy following you everywhere you go and preserving you from falling short. Mercy however does not override our self-will but helps us in our weakness to overcome and prevail. Just as always, sinners need God’s mercy; but more importantly, the Saints can only be kept by His mercy.
Whatever you do from today, you must ask for God’s mercy to help you accomplish what your merit, your status, and your limited capacity can not get you. It is the secrete of living without struggles.
Never think of mercy as a need for only the unsaved or the sinning religious Christians but as God’s provision for you to fulfil His plans and purpose for your life. You are saved by Mercy and much more your sustenance depends on mercy morning by morning.
REFLECTION
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
Psalm 23:6 KJV
Why not consciously make this your prayer from this morning.
I pray that God’s mercy would sustain and keep you till the end. Amen.
God bless you and have a good morning.
