Mercy Not Machinery II

Text: 2 Kings 8:4-6 KJV

And the king talked with Gehazi the servant of the man of God, saying, Tell me, I pray thee, all the great things that Elisha hath done. And it came to pass, as he was telling the king how he had restored a dead body to life, that, behold, the woman, whose son he had restored to life, cried to the king for her house and for her land. And Gehazi said, My Lord, O king, this is the woman, and this is her son, whom Elisha restored to life. And when the king asked the woman, she told him. So the king appointed unto her a certain officer, saying, Restore all that was hers, and all the fruits of the field since the day that she left the land, even until now.

MESSAGE

In the first part of this topic, God in His infinite mercy showed us how a man’s abilities, skills, and strength would only lead him into deep frustration except he had received mercy. Today will turn again to that scripture from Ecclesiastes chapter 9:11 NLT.

The fastest runner doesn’t always win the race, and the strongest warrior doesn’t always win the battle. The wise sometimes go hungry, and the skillful are not necessarily wealthy. And those who are educated don’t always lead successful lives. It is all decided by chance, by being in the right place at the right time.

Ecclesiastes 9:11 NLT

No one controls time, yet only mercy can order a man’s steps to the place of his help at the appointed time. It is only God’s mercy that will move a man from where he was to the place where he would be blessed at the perfect time.

The story in our scriptural text today shows how mercy can lead a man into his destiny. Some have lost opportunities in life because they are either too early or too late for an appointment. Only men who have received mercy are placed in the right place at the right time. Surely goodness and mercy must have followed her that morning. I pray that mercy will be your companion throughout your journey on earth in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Did you notice that for some reason the king began to ask Gehazi about the miracles of Elisha, and more importantly Gehazi was telling the story of the miracle of raising the dead by Elisha, and mercy brought her in before the king? She was neither early nor late. I pray for you one more time the mercy of God will put you in the place of your destiny at the right time in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Gehazi said to the king, this is the woman – while she was yet away, mercy was already preparing a major blessing for her. If you think you have big connections and you need no mercy you are mistaken. The truth is that you will never go above your connections, Only mercy can place a man above his connections and influence. That woman came only to ask for her house and land which has been obviously taken over, but mercy got her more than what she lost. In addition to the recovery of her properties, mercy got her seven years of harvest without struggles.

What did she do? Nothing. When mercy is involved a man would do nothing and get results that others did not get despite hard their labour. Maybe she went unsure whether she would even get anything, but now she got more than she desired because mercy brought her to the right place at the right time.

Many have been accompanied by mercy into great blessings and others have walked into danger simply because they walked without mercy. When machinery and human efforts fail, mercy will prevail. What you need is mercy, not muscle, not money, not merit, not connection. May you find mercy this morning in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

REFLECTION

They shall not hunger nor thirst; neither shall the heat nor sun smite them: for he that hath mercy on them shall lead them, even by the springs of water shall he guide them. Isaiah 49:10 KJV

Do you hunger, do you thirst, are you under some pressure and difficulties? Ask for God’s mercy and He will lead you into fulfilling your purpose in life. He will guide and satisfy you.

God bless you and have a glorious day.
