Blessed Are The Merciful

Text: Matthew 5:7 KJV

Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

MESSAGE

For the first time in this series, we are shifting our focus from God’s direct role and ability in showing a man mercy to man’s part in receiving mercy. By now it must have been settled in our hearts that God owns the right to show mercy to anyone He chose to – it is His prerogative.

Having obtained mercy to become God’s children, the believer is expected to be merciful. The Lord said, that ye may be children of your Father which is in heaven. (Matthew 5:45). Somehow our claim of being truly God’s children is directly attached to our exhibiting God’s attributes. One of which is mercy.

As God’s children adopted by mercy, heaven’s expectation over our lives is that we are merciful to others. Our text of the day revealed the blessedness of being merciful. Certainly, a merciful man will obtain mercy.

It is wrong for a believer to hold back mercy from his fellow men. Since God showed him mercy when He saved him from his sins, why should he not show mercy to others? It is so sad today many who claimed to be children of God are not merciful. They are not merciful in dealing with their subordinates, not merciful in giving, not merciful to those whom they think do not deserve mercy. Who deserves mercy in the first place? None, but our God is a God of mercy.

Mercy attracts mercy – let no man hope to receive mercy from God when he deliberately withholds mercy from others. The Bible said, But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. (Matthew 6:15). Are you merciful? To be unmerciful is to shut the door of God’s mercy against yourself.

Friend, you will be doing yourself great injustice when you refuse to show mercy to others. You are simply calling out for God’s judgement over your life. Rather than mercy prevailing over judgement, you are left to face judgement because you unmerciful. It is a dangerous things, so I ask you to stop it.

Are you merciful to the people around you? Are you quick to pass judgement on others? If God were to withdraw His mercy, can you endure His wrath? Quit robbing yourself of God’s mercy by being merciless. Such lifestyle is a danger to your emotional health, mental health, physical health, and even your spiritual health.

Learn to let go when men hurt you – give allowance for offence and always be ready to forgive. Unforgiveness is not a Kingdom lifestyle, it leads a man to Hell. Chose to be merciful in a merciless generation and God will continue to show you His mercy.

REFLECTION

Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.

Luke 6:36

To be merciful is a proof that we truly belong to God. A merciful man can never lack mercy. Chose deliberately to be merciful from today. If you have been failing to show mercy ask God to forgive you and help you to be merciful.

God bless you and have a great day.
