MESSAGE
The devil is the enemy of good things. He is the thief who comes only to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). From the beginning of creation, the devil has gone after every good thing God made.
Do you marvel that He has been attacking and targeting your faith in God? The Bible told us how wickedly he went after the righteous man Job. Thank God who causes us to triumph through Christ Jesus.
In our text of the day, there is a revelation that God is bringing to us. It is a warning also to us to be on guard always. We must put all our desires under subjection because the enemy of our souls is watching for ways to bring us down.
“Did God say” was the devil’s question to Eve? This is the devil’s biggest game plan, diluting or watering down the truth of God. He attempts to fault the righteous claims of God. He calls God a liar, whereas he was the original liar and the father of all lies (John 8:44).
The Bible says we must be strong in the mighty power of the Lord so that we may be able to stand against the schemes, strategies, deceit, clever tricks, of the devil. We must not allow him to trick us. We are to guard ourselves with God’s special armour built for our defence (Ephesians 6:10-19).
The book of James admonished us to be on the watch. Clearly, the devil tempts us with what we desire. Once he can deceive us, sin is committed, and we know that the wages of sin for an unrepentant sinner is death (James 1:14-15). Therefore we must always set our affections on things above and not on things on earth (Colossians 3:2).
We must not underestimate the devil, and we should not overrate him. We must ask for wisdom from God to be able to stand firm in the liberty which Christ has given us. Not living in sin but in the simplicity of the truth of the gospel.
The devil has thrown so many false prophets into the world today. Deceiving many and turning many out of the way of heaven. They perform many lying miracles and speak big things. Beware! (Matthew 24:11, 24)
Truly we live in perilous times and Satan is out with full force to destroy the faith of believers (2 Timothy 3:1, 1 Timothy 4:1-2). We must watch and pray.
Beloved, this is no time to harbour and play with sin. God has brought this word to us for serious meditation. We must cleanse ourselves from evil works of sin and consecrate ourselves unto God anew.
Always be on guard not only for the devil’s attack but because the Master comes soon. Be prepared so that no man will wear your crown.
REFLECTION
This is call to be sober and watchful. The enemy is always looking for opportunity to strike. Give no room for the devil.
PRAYER
Father, Please help me to always be on the watch against the devil’s tricks. Grant me strength to be an overcomer.
