MESSAGE
Sin is poisonous and dangerous. Just one disobedience of Adam was enough to contaminate the entire human race.
In our previous lessons, we have seen other evil consequences of sin. The ultimate punishment for sin is death, which is eternal separation from God.
It is clear from the scriptures that the penalty for sin is death (Romans 6:23). God’s absolute punishment to sinners is eternal death, I.e. eternal banishment from the light and presence of God.
The first man Adam was totally cut off from God’s eternal life. All humanity in Adam was heading to destruction, but we thank God for His rich mercy by which He saved us. (1 Peter 1:3). God sent His son to die in our place so that we may live in Him eternally (Read John 3).
Although death reigned from Adam to all men, the saint has the assurance of eternal life in Christ (Romans 5:17). The redemptive work of cavalry has brought us eternal life offered by the blood of Jesus Christ.
How have you been guarding your salvation? Have you been working it out with fear and trembling? Are you aware that we will not escape the condemnation of sin if we neglect God’s rich salvation (Hebrews 2:3)?
You cannot afford to fool around with sin. One who lives in a glass house does not throw stones. The life of Christ in you is precious, do not allow sin to snuff it out of you.
Although Jesus has made you free, don’t allow sin to imprison you again. The end result of sin is death – eternal woe and condemnation. The devil through the power of sin keeps men under the bondage of fear of death (Hebrews 2:14-15).
You will only be a fool if you gain the whole world living in sin and lose your immortal soul. It is going to be eternally costly for those living in sin when finally faced with its consequence (Matthew 16:26, Luke 14:30).
There is a warning I believe God is shooting out to us today from Hebrew 10:26-29:
For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
Hebrews 10:26-29
But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. He that despised Moses’ law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
Let us take heed!
REFLECTION
There is no more sacrifice for sins if we continue to fool around with sin while we yet claim to be in the grace of God.
PRAYER
Father, Please deliver me from the sting of death (1 Corinthians 15:56), and give me the grace to be victorious always above sin.
