MESSAGE
Do not join a multitude to do evil (Exodus 23:2). This and many more warnings are written for our instruction so that we would avoid the pits that others fell into.
Scripture is very clear, joining yourself with the wrong people is disastrous. You will be doing yourself a great injustice by placing yourself directly in the way of God’s judgment.
Yesterday we spoke about the possibilities of unity and the benefits that come to believers and people united in God’s will. But when men join hands together against God and his anointed, they place themselves in the way of His vengeance.
Who are your friends? With whom do you take counsel? The Bible says that you are blessed if you do not walk in the counsel of the ungodly or stand in the ways of sinners or sit in the seat of the scornful (Psalms 1:1; 2-3).
By implication, those who unite themselves with sinners face God’s wrath (Psalms 1:4-6). The Bible further warn believers to stay out of the ways of sinners, even when they entice you do not consent (Read Proverbs 1:10-19).
The Bible also warns against unequal yoking with unbelievers (2 Corinthians 6:14). You can not marry an unbeliever, learn from Samson. Be careful who you put money together to do business with. Do not partake in the sin of another.
In our text of the day, we saw how the people were cofounded because of their open rebellion against God. The people all came together not to worship or give glory to God but to unite themselves against God. in their way to pay God a surprise visit one day.
Such unity is dangerous, do not be a part of the people ganging up against God’s servants. We see that happening in the church today. You will only be fighting against God. Just as the people in the then world were confounded, God is sure to confound and put to shame those who stand against His elect. Learn from Korah, Dathan and Abiram (Romans 8:33-34; Read Numbers 16, Psalms 2).
Are you persecuted? Have some people gang up against you? Do not worry child of God. Even when kings and rulers gather together against God’s people, they are sure to scatter because it is not of the Lord.
What then shall we then say to these things, if God be for us, who can be against us (Romans 8:31).
REFLECTION
Uniting yourself with sinners is dangerous, do not be a part of another’s sin.
