Play Your Part

Text: Genesis 19:2 KJV

Further Reading: Genesis 19:1-3, 1 Kings 3:1-14

And he said, Behold now, my Lords, turn in, I pray you, into your servant’s house, and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and ye shall rise up early, and go on your ways. And they said, Nay; but we will abide in the street all night.

Genesis 19:2

MESSAGE

Human responsibility can never be ignored in the daily affairs of men. God didn’t create robots but intelligent people with the moral will to do what is right.

In our text of the day, we saw how grace and providence positioned Lot at the entrance of the city gate of Sodom. Don’t forget that we have mentioned the fact that it is
only God that can put a man in the right place at the right time (Read Ecclesiastes 9:11 NLT). But being at the right place sometimes is not enough but doing the right things. That responsibility is left to man.

Lot could have ignored the strangers, he could have looked down upon them, or even greet them and let them go away. But he decided to host these strangers the same way Abraham his uncle had done.

Imagine if Lot had not hosted these men, maybe he would have perished with the city. Do not hesitate to welcome strangers because you don’t know when you will be doing it to Angels. May you not miss your blessings in Jesus’ Name (Hebrews 13:3).

Somehow Lot identified the opportunity to be blessed and he took it. You can see the picture of a man who literally drew blessing to his life by being hospitable. When you read the text carefully you will see how he fell down to welcome these men and then pressed them to lodge at his house.

God is always willing to bless as many as those who are willing to receive His blessings. Another person who played his part was Solomon. Though he was loved by God yet he provoked great blessing by his offering. Solomon offered to God the best offering and God gave him His best (1 Kings 3:3-4, 11-14).

Men have received great blessings through their hospitality, giving, sacrifice, and obedience. How are you playing your part? Are among those who dodge responsibility and only want God to do things for them without doing anything for God.

God does not require anything from man, every opportunity he gives us to express ourselves whether in giving or engaging in other social causes is a gateway to bless us the more. Do not join the group of men who thinks tithing is outdated. The promises and blessings are there for the grab if only you will play your part.

REFLECTION

Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

Galatians 6:7

It is clear that God rewards those who diligently seek Him. Ensure to play your part and God’s blessing is sure to follow.

PRAYER

Father, please help me to take responsibility by doing good always.
