MESSAGE
If the Lord should mark iniquity, who can stand (Psalms 130:3)? Sinners may think that because God delays His judgement that they can live on without consequence. This is not true.
Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil. Though a sinner do evil an hundred times, and his days be prolonged, yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, which fear before him: But it shall not be well with the wicked, neither shall he prolong his days, which are as a shadow; because he feareth not before God.
Ecclesiastes 8:11-13
The position of God is very clear: He is not pleased with the death of the wicked, and also not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance (Ezekiel 33:11, 2 Peter 3:9). But men have taken the long-suffering of God for a ride and are set to face the consequences of their sin.
Every sinner who eventually lands in hell will find only himself to be blamed. In the parable of the rich man and Lazarus, we saw that the rich man did not complain of being unfairly lost in hell. It looks to me as if every lost soul would finally realise the mercy of God to keep their immortal soul from destruction and their willful desire to keep breaking His commandment resulting in their doom (Luke 16:19-31).
The people of Sodom and Gomorrah in our text have already passed repentance and finally, it was judgment time. There was no way for them to escape because they had rejected the mercy of God.
How long have you been rejecting God’s mercy sinner? Will you not turn today before it’s too late. Every single breath you take is mercy supplied, do not waste it else you may be lost for life.
Do you say but I am not like the people of Sodom and Gomorrah? What about that sin in your life that God has been asking you to drop? Those things you do in the secrete when no one is there will be your undoing if you don’t repent.
Judgment is coming and who may abide the day of His anger (Isaiah 13:9)? God is calling everyone to repentance. We must all get sackcloth and ashes upon our heads. No room for self-righteousness, let the ministers and the priest of our God weep for the church and the nations.
REFLECTION
Sin has great consequences, repent today and live.
PRAYER
Father, please have mercy on me and this generation. Save this generation from the ruin of sin.
