MESSAGE
One of the most fearful things about the Christian journey is that a man may be genuinely saved from sin but if such a person looks back he may lose his eternity with Christ.
The Christian race is not a sprint but a marathon. It required endurance, patience and complete faith to complete the course. The Lord warns that if a man should lay his hands on the plough and looks back that such is not fit for the kingdom of God (Luke 9:62). Also, only those who endure till the end shall be saved (Matthew 24:13).
The life of a Christian therefore calls for watchfulness and constant self-examination. It’s a journey that requires complete dependence on the grace of God. You must constantly check if you still have your first love for Jesus.
Are there little compromises in your life? That little sin that you secretly indulge in? It will end up becoming your undoing. It is not important to start the race alone but to finish well and strong. Apostle Paul said I press forward, not looking back at those achievements of the past but rather setting new milestones. A forward-thinking and moving Christian will never lack the grace of God in finishing well (Philippians 3:12-14).
Today’s message is a deep warning to whoever thinks that he stands, let such take heed lest he falls. This is a call to vigilance, don’t relax too much, and the journey is not over yet until we cross the golden shore. It is sad to see Lot’s wife escape from Sodom’s destruction but could not make it to safety.
I am persuaded that God is sounding a similar warning to us this morning, “don’t look back”. The world will tempt you with everything in it but you must hold your ground and never compromise your faith in God.
Finally, let us listen to this admonition and take courage in the power and grace of God to keep us till the end.
Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Hebrews 12:1-2
REFLECTION
Let nothing shake your faith, be persuaded that nothing in this life or things to come will separate you from the love of Christ.
PRAYER
Father, please keep me focused on my Christian journey and never let me look back.
