MESSAGE
The Word of the Lord gave us believers several lessons on the lives of many men who started well but ended up miserably. These instructions are a warning to many of us. We cannot relax or rejoice about our Spiritual state but we must strive to finish well and strong.
The Bible calls the devil our adversary whose job is roaming through the earth roaring like a lion to devour the Saint (1 Peter 5:8). God is calling us to carefulness and watchfulness, so that will not fall prey to satan’s evil schemes. May the devil not devour you in Jesus’ name. Amen. This enemy was described as the accuser of the people of God (Revelation 12:10). You can imagine with what audacity the devil stood against Joshua the high priest to resist him (Zechariah 3:1-2). That is how far the enemy of your soul can go to see to your downfall. May you not fall in this Christian race. Amen.
Of the many examples the Bible gave us, take a look at the man Noah whom the Bible says was righteous on the earth and God could find him faithful enough to trust the destiny of humanity into his hands (Genesis 6:9). After the flood and the good commentary that was written about him, he ended not so well. The Bible says that he got so drunk even to the point of being naked (Genesis 9:20-21). That’s not a good way to conclude such a story, but that was what happened. How can such a godly man end his life that way? May God keep you till the end.
In our text and reading of the day, we also saw the end of Lot. Though he had escaped the destruction of Sodom, he ended up becoming the incestuous father of two sons. May we not be polluted in life in Jesus’ Name.
The life Moses should help you take the matter of finishing well with utmost passion. This was the man who God called His friend, the man who spoke with God as no other man has ever done. Yet he could not finish well, he laboured so hard for the people, but he could not enter the promised land.
Solomon also started well but he finished so poorly. He loved many strange women and ended grieving God through idolatry (1 Kings 11:1-4). And the Lord was angry with Solomon because his heart was turned from the Lord God of Israel who appeared unto him twice (1 Kings 11:9).
The word for today is not to be taken with levity, it calls for radical prayers to God. Some of us have started the Christian race and we are going steady, we must trust God for grace to finish well. My prayer for those who are struggling is that the Lord will send help to them this morning and quicken them again.
Finally, if you have not yet joined the race by giving your life to Christ, you can do that today. Don’t wait any longer, the time is short and the Saviour comes soon.
REFLECTION
Aim to finish well just as Paul and other saints did.
PRAYER
Father, please help me to finish well and strong in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
