MESSAGE
One of the reasons why marriages fail today is because men no longer follow the pattern laid down by the owner of the institution I.e God.
Marriage was designed by God and must be approached by godly principles. Remember, it was God who said it is not good for the man to be alone, and He was the one who brought the woman to Adam (Genesis 2:18, 22). God still does this today for His children who want His perfect will for their lives.
We are going to consider the first principle as seen in our text and reading of the day. No unequal yoking – don’t marry an unbeliever or a nominal Christian. Some people excuse themselves by saying, I will change him or her. That is not true. People who have said that before you have burnt their fingers in regret.
The Bible says that God has blessed Abraham in all things yet he recognised that if Isaac his son would not waste everything and succeed more than him, he must marry correctly. Abraham knew that the covenant of God hanging upon Isaac’s life was subject to failure if he marries wrongly (Genesis 24:1, 7).
Abraham would not want Isaac to marry the people of the land because they do not worship the true God. Their religious and social life gives no place for the God Abraham. Abraham charged his servant to take a wife from his brethren. As a young person, settle it in your mind that unequal yoking is not allowed in Christian marriage.
To show you how serious the matter was, Abraham made the servant swear to him never to take of the daughters of the idolatrous land where he sojourns.
Remember Samson, how he landed in hot soup because of the wrong marriage to Delilah. God desires to bless you and give you the best. Don’t go out into the world to pick a bride or groom. Allow God to choose for you among His children.
You are a person of destiny, therefore don’t allow a wrong marital choice with an unbeliever to truncate the divine purpose for your life.
REFLECTION
Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
2 Corinthians 6:14
Don’t marry an unbeliever, such will put out the light of God in you and plunge you into utter darkness. Separate yourself unto God and allow Him to choose for you.
PRAYER
Father, Please help me heed your warning so that I will not be entangled in a wrong marriage.
