Why Does God Allow Suffering?

And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure.

MESSAGE

Nobody can really put a hand on why God allows suffering. Some say that if God were to be good and loving, He would not allow suffering. But we who are saved by His grace know that all things (including suffering) work together for our good (Romans 8:28).

The truth is that God will never allow His children to go through what He has not provided adequate grace for them to bear. He said to Paul, “My grace is sufficient for you and my strength is made available to perfect your imperfections” (2 Corinthians 12:9).

While we may not understand the purpose of suffering in its early phase, one truth however is certain, we understand better by and by. God loves His children and empathises with us in our sufferings. We can be certain that if He allows it, it will turn out for our good.

The Bible speaks of God’s compassion and Fatherly love in Psalms 103:13. He pities us when we are tried and suffer. He is touched by the feelings of our infirmities. Praise God because we have such a heavenly Father who cares so deeply about us.

Whether it is the trial of faith or what the devil brings our ways, we can be sure that God’s eternal purpose will be done. Because He sees the end from the beginning and He loves us, we can trust Him and rest assured that we are safe in His everlasting arms.

We can prove this by remaining steadfast in our faith in Him and continuing to pursue those things that are of great interest to His Kingdom. After a long season of darkness, the light will shine. The Bible says that weeping may endure the whole night but joy certainly comes in the morning (Psalms 30:5).

God will hold your hands and carry you through all your trials and sufferings. Just hold on tight to Him – He will help you. Keep serving the Lord saint, the day will soon break and the night will be over.

REFLECTION

For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

Romans 8:18 NKJV

God has prepared a greater glory for those who suffer doing His will. Your suffering is a stepping stone to glory.

PRAYER

Father, Please help me to stand firm on your word and never waver through any period of suffering. Help me not to question or doubt your love for a moment.
