MESSAGE
One of the biggest lessons which God want His children to learn when they are in a very difficult place in life is trusting Him. The word trust means to completely throw oneself at the mercy of another. In the case of a Christian, it is a complete reliance on God to give the grace to help in times of need.
The human hearts find it difficult to trust. Trusting requires staking your all on someone else in a particular situation. Trust involves risk. Some people who have had bad experiences of break of trust find it more difficult to trust because of the hurt of the past. God is not like men, he has ever been faithful and ever trustworthy.
It is easier to trust in man than in God. It’s obvious that men are trusted based on their integrity and track record. But even such can fail and disappoint. The Bible says that it is better to trust in the Lord than to trust in man or put your confidence in princes (Psalms 118:8-9). Even when you have great people in your life, God still wants you to trust Him.
The Bible also says that men do not only trust in their fellow men but the weapons of the flesh. Some trust in chariots and horses but were disappointed because the arms of flesh will always fail. Only those who trust in the Lord will rise and stand firm (Psalms 20:7-8).
The saint must keep looking up to Jesus alone who is the author and finisher of his faith even in his trial and suffering. Until we are faced with big issues that are beyond our capacity, we may not be able to trust God.
The lesson on trust is best learnt when we are going through the valley of the shadow of death, that confidence that God is with us. His overwhelming presence gives assurance that all will be well. The Psalmist said, “I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears” (Psalms 34:4).
We can’t learn to trust God when we have everything and things are going our way. God brings us into a Trust relationship by allowing storms to hit our ship in life. He wants us to learn how to depend on Him and Him alone.
Then faithfulness of God is sure, and we know that we can trust Him. Even when we are going through the most difficult times, He is still working out all things together for our God. Job knew this secret and said in our text, even if He kills me yet will still trust Him. We can trust Him.
REFLECTION
God has never failed, but the true test of how much we trust Him will be revealed in our suffering. We would either bow to sin or say like the young Hebrew men, our God can deliver us and we trust Him.
PRAYER
Father, please help me to learn to trust you in my trials and sufferings.
