Consequences Of Dishonouring God 2

Text: 1 Samuel 15:10-11 NKJV

Further Reading: 1 Samuel 15:10-24

Now the word of the Lord came to Samuel, saying, “I greatly regret that I have set up Saul as king, for he has turned back from following Me, and has not performed My commandments.” And it grieved Samuel, and he cried out to the Lord all night.

1 Samuel 15:10-11 NKJV

MESSAGE

God can take a nobody and make him somebody. The Bible says that He takes the poor from the dust and lifted the needy from the dung hills to make him seat with princes (Psalms 113:7-8).

That was the story of King Saul, God took him from the lowest place and placed him above all the people in the land. Saul himself admitted that he was not fit for the throne, yet God placed him there. I want you to know that however high you have climbed in life, it is not because of your smartness or your hard work, it is because God has placed you there.

The Bible says that pride goes before destruction, if you want to quickly fall, attribute your success to your might (Proverbs 16:18). You don’t have to be another Nebuchadnezzar to be humble.

If God lifts a man, He can also bring him down (Psalms 75:6-7). If God has placed you in a position, use it to bring honour to Him, not yourself or the people around you. By honouring God, He will give you more grace to keep rising and climbing high.

We highlighted yesterday how dangerous it is to fall into the hands of the living God. Saul refused to honour God, He was a men-pleaser. He chose to honour men above God. The end was a disaster, Saul lost the kingdom and the men he chose to honour.

Don’t bite the finger that fed you. Somehow Saul forgot that it was God who put him up there. Because Saul dishonoured God, He was lightly esteemed by God. Though Saul prophesied when he was anointed by Samuel, though he had another heart, he ended up a lunatic king.

God withdrew His Spirit from Saul and he was possessed with an evil spirit. The end of Saul was terrible, he went from seeking God to seeking diviners. He lost his throne and even his spiritual standing with God.

Obedience is the key to honouring God. Jesus being the perfect Son proved His honour by being obedient unto death even on the cross. As long as you obey God in all things, he will continue to honour and lift you.

REFLECTION

But now your kingdom shall not continue. The Lord has sought for Himself a man after His own heart, and the Lord has commanded him to be commander over His people, because you have not kept what the Lord commanded you.”

1 Samuel 13:14 NKJV

God can replace anyone when such fails to honour Him. Strive always to honour God!

PRAYER

Father, please don’t ever let me be replaced in your agenda for this generation.
