MESSAGE
Confession is an outward expression of acknowledged sin. In this state, the person seeking salvation admits to the truth that he deserves judgment and pleads with God for mercy.
In Leviticus 5:5, the Bible says that when a person is found guilty of breaking any of the laws, he must confess that he has sinned. The same principle applies to a sinner in dire need of God’s pardon.
Confession is not made in the heart but the mouth. Having agreed with God about his sins and repented genuinely, the sinner must tell God the resolve of his heart with his mouth. This is because the Bible says that a person is either justified or condemned by his word (Matthew 12:37).
Also, Scripture says in Romans 10:10 that with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Romans 10:10 KJV
David in our text of the day told us about his experience of forgiveness when he confessed his acknowledged sin to God. This means that when you confess that sin genuinely to God He will hear you and forgive.
No one who covers his sin will ever succeed but when a person confesses and forsakes his sins, such will receive mercy. We can also count on the faithfulness of God to forgive us when we confess our faults to Him. 1 John 1:9 says that if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1 John 1:9 KJV
This confession that leads to salvation is not made to the pastor or any person but God. The transaction is solely between you and God. It is God you have offended, and it is to Him you must confess your acknowledged sins.
REFLECTION
There is no name by which anyone can be saved other than the name of Jesus. Therefore, anyone who will be saved must confess also that Jesus is the Lord.
PRAYER
Father, I confess all known and unknown sins in my life to You today, please have mercy on me.
