MESSAGE
Jesus said, if you love me, you will do what I command you (John 14:15). We must note again that obedience is proof of our love for Jesus. Today, we will look at another commandment which is “LOVE”.
There are three faces to this instruction and none of them is grievous, they are rather meant to bless us. Today we will be considering the first face which is to “Love God”.
Our text of the day already told us that we are commanded to love God. This should not be seen as a big ask. Judging by the fact that we are nothing without God and we owe our lives and every other thing to Him. Christians must be intentional about loving God.
The Bible says that we loved Him because He first loved us. It was God who first stretched out the hand of love to us. He did it while we were His enemies and yet wallowing in our sins. He sent His only Son to die for us because He loved us (Romans 5:8;10).
Why should we then be forced to love this God? Why should He not take the centre stage in our hearts? Why should any other become a priority above Him? Why should spending intimate time become a big ask? Why should it be a big deal to sacrifice for Him who gave the biggest sacrifice for us?
You must be intentional from today about loving God. Spend quality time in intimate fellowship with Him. Do the things He loved and reject those things He hates.
Let me say without mince words that those who reject Jesus, cannot love God. This is because Christ is the symbol and emblem of God’s love for the entire human race, rejecting Him means rejecting God. Therefore I urge those who have not given their lives to the Lord to do so today and begin to love God genuinely.
REFLECTION
Do you love God with all your heart? If not ask Him to forgive you and give you the grace and strength needed to love Him wholeheartedly from today.
PRAYER
Father, please forgive me for not loving You enough; please grant me the grace and strength to love You wholeheartedly from today.
