Text: Hebrews 2:14-15 NKJV

Further Reading: Revelation 21:7-8

Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

Hebrews 2:14-15 NKJV

MESSAGE

Today we want to see two other reasons why you must thank Jesus. We have said that you should thank Him for the salvation of your soul, but this also means deliverance. For a long time, humanity has been kept under the bondage of fear. Fear itself weakens a man, destabilizes his mind, and stops him from fulfilling God’s glorious purposes.

The greatest fear that has gripped men of all ages is the fear of death and hell. Generally, men love to live and not die, therefore they are terrified by the prospect of death. Death is however inevitable for all men. The Bible says,

“It is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment. Hebrews 9:27 NKJV”

From the scripture, we can see that all men must die, and face a bigger consequence which is judgment. Bad people know that they have hell awaiting them because of their deeds. But Christ’s sacrifice made it possible for sinners like me to be saved from the danger of hell. Therefore removing all the fear of death and hell. The Christian knows that death is not to be feared because it is a transition to glory.

This why the Bible says that when the believer in Christ dies, he or she is simply sleeping and would be raised on the last day (1 Thessalonians 4:16). Our text of the day days that Jesus came to give us deliverance from the torment that comes from the fear of death and hell – Praise the Lord! Why then would not thank Jesus who has delivered you from the fear of death and hell?

Jesus died and resurrected to bring us into a new era of faith in God, He gave us another spirit called the Spirit of power, love, and a sound mind. We can no longer be afraid of death or hell because it is written:

“Death is swallowed up in victory.” “O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?” The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
I Corinthians 15:54‭-‬57 NKJV

REFLECTION

For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”

Romans 8:15 NKJV

Deliverance from fear is one of the greatest help any man can receive from Jesus, thank Him for it.

PRAYER

Thank you Jesus for delivering me from the fear of death and hell.
