MESSAGE
Many things that many people run after today will be of little or no value in a few years. Whatever technology or invention that men praise will with time fade and not be remembered. Nothing in this life is constant except for God who is never changing and ever faithful. To fully understand the vanity of life, take a look at the old buildings around, they used to be the best a few years ago, but now one wants to live in them.
King Solomon, a man who had everything in excess studied the entire human pursuit in life and considered everything as vanity. The truth is that nothing in life can fill the vacuum in a person. No amount of money is enough, no connection or achievement can ever take the place of God’s glory.
The things that people struggle to keep are things that will never last. That is why the believer must set his affection on the things above. By this, we mean that you must male eternal things you treasure (Matthew 6:19-21). Why should you live for vanity?
To those who spend their resources on fashion, the Bible has this to say to them:
“and those who use this world as not misusing it. For the form of this world is passing away.”
I Corinthians 7:31 NKJV
What then should the believer’s response be? Every child of God must live with eternity in view. God expects that you live in the world but not be carried away by the ephemeral things of the world. Though they appeal to you greatly, you must ask the Holy Spirit to give you self-discipline.
To escape the trap of chasing the shadow, one must genuinely have a proper valuation of eternity. Once you can convince yourself that the whole world is not compared to a few moments in the presence of God eternally, you will stop going after the report appeals of this world.
REFLECTION
Don’t put your hope in this unstable world and its many distractions, rather trust in Jesus. It is Christ that you have true safety.
PRAYER
Father, please deliver me from every form of Worldliness in my life.
