God’s Word On Trial

Text: Romans 4:17-18

Further Reading: Romans 4:12-22

(as it is written, “I have made you a father of many nations”) in the presence of Him whom he believed—God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did; who, contrary to hope, in hope believed, so that he became the father of many nations, according to what was spoken, “So shall your descendants be.”

Romans 4:17-18 NKJV

MESSAGE

Whenever God speaks or gives a promise, it is usually scrutinized to see if God will be true to His word. The fact that God has spoken to you on a matter does not mean that you can roll over, fold your hands, and do nothing. Although God will never lie, His word must be tried.

One of the confidence we have in the word of God is that no matter how badly tried it is, it will still come to pass. God made this bold claim in Isaiah 55:11.

So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.
Isaiah 55:11 NKJV

When God promised to make Abraham a great and mighty nation, he was childless. But God’s word has come to him. And because God can not lie, the promise must be fulfilled. The Bible recorded that Abraham hoped against hope believing that God was able to do what he said.

This is our duty to God’s word, we must believe it above any other word. We must trust His Word above events, circumstances, and things that are subject to change. We must never take our eyes away from His Word. To do so will mean unbelief.

Always know that God’s word will be seriously challenged and our faith in His word tested. But the result is that when we trust fully in His words, we can be guaranteed the fulfillment of His promises.

REFLECTION

The words of the Lord are pure words, Like silver tried in a furnace of earth, Purified seven times.

Psalms 12:6 NKJV

God is always committed to His words. No matter how God’s word is tried, it will always prevail.

PRAYER

Father, please let your Word prevail over every challenge in my life today in Jesus’ name. Amen.
