MESSAGE
Any Christian who does not walk in love is not walking in the light. We know that God is light and every one of God’s children is expected to also be a light bearer. Apart from God being light, we also know that God is love.
He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.
I John 4:8, 16 NKJV
Those who walk outside of love walk in darkness. No matter how placed you are in the church or your community, if you do not love God and God’s people you are walking in stark darkness.
Our text and reading of the day make it clear that if you hate your fellow believers, you are walking in darkness. There should be no room for hatred in your heart even against your enemies. Jesus told His followers who are walking in the light to love their enemies and not hate.
But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,
Matthew 5:44 NKJV
The summary of the life of any believer walking in the light is therefore summarized thus:
A lover of God who loves his fellow believers and then radiates the light of Christ by loving his enemies. If any man or woman walks in this path of love, such will never stumble in the darkness.
Are you walking in love? Is your heart with love for God and for people whether they are saved or not? Just as Paul said, it is the love of Christ that compels those who love Him to share the good news of Christ with their world.
REFLECTION
Make an effort today to change your attitude towards God and people. Begin to walk in love and you will never stumble in darkness.
PRAYER
Father, please help me love You and all men with all my heart. Help me to let go of the former hurt and bury the hatchet. So that I can walk in true love forgiving those who have offended me.
