But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption—

1 Corinthians 1:30 NKJV

MESSAGE

Christ is the one who makes us Holy. Holiness is a result of Grace. When we got saved, God forgave us our sin. Our record was wiped clean. But how do we go from there to the point where we can now live above sin. This is the will of God even our sanctification that we may be able live above sin.

While salvation deals with forgiveness, sanctification deals with the root cause of sin. To understand the extent to which sin created a mess in humanity you must consider Psalms 51:5 and Romans 3:23.

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23 NKJV). This is because as David puts it, Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, And in sin my mother conceived me

(Psalms 51:5 NKJV).

The inhrent human nature is sinful. Until that nature is esponged, man will keep falling short of God’s glory by sinning. God does not only want to save us from sin but to keep us from sinning. The desire of Christ for every believer is to go and sin no more.

How can this be achieved? It is through faith in God’s power to truly make us holy. Whatever we don’t believe can never be appropriated to us even if it has been reserved for us. The same way you believed Christ for salvation is the same way you can trust Him for sanctification.

God does this through two major ways. One is by the blood of Jesus and the second is by His word. Therefore Jesus also, that He might sanctify the people with His own blood, suffered outside the gate.

Hebrews 13:12 NKJV

In John 17:17, Jesus prayed that God should sanctify His people through His word,  and in John 15:3, He said, You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.

John 15:3 NKJV

This is another great thing Christ did for us to make us complete in Him and live a godly life in our time on earth. You can be holy, you can live a holy life, but you must want it and believe God for it by praying for it.

REFLECTION

But as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”

1 Peter 1:15-16 NKJV

God wants you to be holy by making you holy through Christ. Pray to Him to take the nature of sin away and give you a new nature of God.

PRAYER

Father, please take away the Adamic nature of sin from my life and give me a new nature that can live above sin in Jesus’ name. Amen.
