MESSAGE
In Him was life
All men and women inevitably have an appointment to keep with death. No one will ever escape that reality, what differs, however, is the timing. Once men die they face God in Judgement (Hebrews 9:27). How long a person lives does not matter, what matters is what kind of life that fellow possesses.
There is a natural life. This is the life that we all had when we were born. This life is transient, terminal, and weak. All men regardless of age or gender have it. Over time many people have tried several therapies to try to improve on this life and maybe look young, but in the end, the reality of the terminal nature of this life kicks in.
This natural life also has a huge disadvantage, it is from fallen man. It is prone to sin and iniquity. That was why David said, in Psalms 51:5,
Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, And in sin my mother conceived me.
Psalms 51:5 NKJV
What this meant was that this life came with a default nature of sin that produces death. (Romans 3:23; 6:23a). Those who possess this life have only one destination at the end of their life, and it is hell.
That is why the gospel message shows that God loves humanity and He sent Jesus His only Son to die for us. Anyone who believes in Christ will not perish but will be given a new and eternal life (John 3:16). In reality those who do not have this new life will perish and be eternally damned.
This new life is found only in Christ. That was why our text of the day declared with all authority that in Christ was the Life, that Life is what gives men light. Those who have this new life will now be able to walk in the light of God.
To make this sure, the Bible says that when believers who have now received the new life of Christ walk in the Light of Christ, they can have an unbroken fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus Christ will cleanse them from all all sin (1 John 1:7).
There is nothing to argue about or explain, you must have the life of Jesus Christ to truly be alive or else you are a walking dead. Does it mean that Christians won’t die? Far from it, what it means is that though we physically die we will reign eternally with God. We know this because Christ has promised to come and receive us to Himself (John 14:1-3).
REFLECTION
Do you have the life of Christ or are you only carrying this empty life of sin about? Turn to Jesus today and ask Him to have mercy on you. Do it now, no procrastination, tomorrow may be too late. Simply ask Jesus to forgive you and cleanse you from all your sins with His blood. Don’t reason anything out, simply believe and you will be saved.
PRAYER
Jesus, please have mercy on me and save my soul. Let your life give me light always.
