MESSAGE
Another great mistake many make today is to think they are better than others spiritually. They soon forget that it was God who chose them before the foundation of the world. Jesus echoed this truth in John 15:16, He said, “You didn’t choose me, I chose you”.
In the same chapter, we saw that we all are mere branches that can not survive on our own and thus must stay attached to Him. Paul warns against this spiritual arrogance and idea in Romans 11:18,
“Do not boast against the branches. But if you do boast, remember that you do not support the root, but the root supports you.”
That is why the Bible further admonishes us that we must examine ourselves and everyone who thinks he is standing to be careful lest he falls. Never think yourself better than others but continue in the grace of God in all humility.
Remember, God resists the proud but He gives grace to the humble. That was what we saw in our Bible reading of the day. That religious man went home condemned because he felt he was better than the supposed sinner who was humble enough to admit his fault. The Bible says that the latter became justified while the former was condemned.
I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” Luke 18:14 NKJV
Never put up the attitude of pride that makes you feel better than others. You will be walking your life to the path of condemnation.
REFLECTION
No one receives anything except it has been given from God. Both you and spirituality are products of God’s grace. Be humble and continue in the might of the Spirit.
PRAYER
Father, thank you for all the spiritual gifts you have given me. Help me never to look down on others as unspiritual or judge people as sinners.
