The Bible reminds us that the afflictions of the righteous are many, as we face constant battles against the flesh, the world, sin, and the devil.
But praise be to God! The righteous find deliverance when they call upon the name of the Lord. The Bible describes the name of the Lord as a city of refuge, a strong tower that cannot be broken by the devil or the world. In His name, we are safe. The name of Jesus offers us great provision and protection when life’s challenges and battles come our way.
Eligibility for Safety
The key to finding safety in the name of the Lord is righteousness—being made righteous through the blood of Jesus (2 Corinthians 5:21). The name of Jesus is not a formula for those who do not belong to Him. For example, the seven sons of Sceva learned this lesson the hard way when they tried to use a name they did not understand or respect (Acts 19:13-16). However, for those who seek salvation, the name of the Lord is always available.
The Bible assures us, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 10:13). Through His name, sinners are saved from sin and eternal damnation, and the righteous are delivered from their many afflictions.
The Power in the Name of Jesus
The name of Jesus holds unmatched power. The Bible declares, “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4:12). This power is affirmed because God has highly exalted Jesus, giving Him a name above every other name. At the name of Jesus, every knee must bow, and every tongue must confess that He is Lord (Philippians 2:9-11).
