Scripture Reference
“And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.” – John 6:35 KJV
In today’s world, many are burdened and consumed by the quest to meet basic needs such as food and drink. This instinct for survival often drives people to great lengths. Yet, as Jesus pointed out, these efforts often fail to bring true rest or satisfaction.
God’s desire for us is far greater than just physical provision. He calls us to hunger and thirst for righteousness, promising that we shall be filled (Matthew 5:6). In Isaiah 55:1-2, He extends an invitation to come and eat and drink freely, without cost. He assures us that when we accept His provision, we will find rest for our souls.
Jesus reminds us in today’s scripture that He is the answer to all our needs. When we believe in Him, we find satisfaction for both spiritual and physical needs. He encourages us not to labor for perishable things but to seek eternal sustenance. This means putting Him first in our pursuits, trusting Him for our daily needs, and prioritizing the eternal destination of our souls.
Why does this matter?
We are eternal beings, and our decisions must reflect eternal values. Jesus affirmed this when He said, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4). The Word of God gives life, preserves life, and provides eternal satisfaction. Only by believing in Jesus—the Word of Life—can we experience the fullness of life that begins now and extends into eternity.
What next?
Acknowledge Jesus in all your ways. Accept His invitation to partake of the Living Bread and drink from the Living Water. Trust in Him, and He will grant you eternal life, joy, and peace. True rest for the soul begins with Him. Will you believe, eat, and drink freely today? The choice is yours.
Prayer
Father, thank You for Jesus, the Bread of Life. Help me to believe in Him fully and to hunger and thirst for Your righteousness. Teach me to prioritize eternal values in all my decisions. May I find true rest in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
