Harvest of Mercy

Text: Hosea 10:12-13 KJV

Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the Lord, till he come and rain righteousness upon you. Ye have plowed wickedness, ye have reaped iniquity; ye have eaten the fruit of lies: because thou didst trust in thy way, in the multitude of thy mighty men.

MESSAGE

After the flood in the days of Noah, God made a profound decree: While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease. (Genesis 8:22). By implication, there will be seasons for sowing and reaping. It also points to us that a man will reap only when he has sowed.

By ordinance, men who sow shall reap. Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. (Galatians 6:7). The Bible established that God can not be tricked, an unrighteous man should not expect to reap the harvest of righteousness, he simply gets what he sows.

Sowing therefore is linked with fruitfulness and blessing – this has nothing to do with the sowing of seed that many so-called men of God have grown fat upon today, but sowing to do righteousness. The land to sow into is your heart, what you sow into it will determine what your life will look like.

Our text of the day described for us the two seeds that can be sown and their respective harvest. Quite on point, God is not deceived – you get what you sow. Also, the quality of seed sown will determine the quality of the harvest. A man who sows sparingly should not expect to reap bountifully and vice versa.

Since no one plants orange to harvest apples, it is important to note that what a man sows into his life and others will be the corresponding harvest. In verse 13 of our text, the Bible tells us that, those who plow wickedness reaped iniquity and have eaten the fruit of lies. Remember from yesterday we said, that unmerciful are wicked. The unmerciful plows wickedness and reaps iniquity.

Those who sow themselves to doing right on the other hand will have the harvest of mercy. The righteous is merciful, and thus he is blessed. As he sows the seed of righteousness, God deals a bountiful harvest of mercy to him. This man sowing in tears the seed of righteousness in a sinful generation possesses the mercy of God as his reward.

Do you want to have a harvest of mercy? Sow to yourself righteousness. Jesus is the righteousness of God, if you allow him to take root in your life, you will definitely not lack mercy. Because He is in you, you will be merciful and automatically you will receive mercy.

Friend, you can also have the harvest of mercy by allowing Christ to express God’s righteousness in you. Stop sowing iniquity, it will damage your life, run to Jesus today and you will be saved by His grace.

REFLECTION

And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation.

Luke 1:50

The righteous will have God’s mercy from generation to generation. Have you been made righteous by the atoning blood of Christ on the cross? Meditate on this.

God bless you and have a great day.
