MESSAGE
Sanctification is God’s will for every believer, I.e. God wants every believer to be Holy (1 Thessalonians 4:3). God’s commitment to this cause started from the old testament when He called Israel to be separated unto Him in Holiness (Leviticus 20:26).
When God called us out by saving us from sin, it is a call unto Himself. Because God is holy, He wants us also to be holy in all manner of conversation (1 Peter 1:15-16). In the new man in Christ Jesus, the possibility of attaining God’s desire for Holiness is founded in the finished work of cavalry.
Today many believers believe that victory over sin is impossible when in fact the path to victorious living has been prepared for them. Christ did not die for us to remain in our sins (Romans 6:1-2). God want us to be totally free from sin because we were now under Grace (Romans 6:7, 14).
As God our Father is perfect and Holy, so is His desire for us. He has not called us unto uncleanness but unto Holiness (1 Thessalonians 4:7).
Do you desire Holiness and do not know how to attain it. Have you tried all the hard rules that have brought you into the bondage of legalism and not victory over sin? You have knocked on the wrong door so far.
Sanctification is God’s gift to us even as our justification. It has been described as the removal of the Adamic nature, and God giving us a new heart (Read Ezekiel 36:21-29; Hebrews 13:12).
Our text of the day reveals the sanctifying power of the word of God. Jesus said, we are clean and made holy by His word. By implication, as we apply the word of God to our lives, it cleanses us and conforms us to the image of Jesus.
The Lord further said in John 17:17 that the truth of God’s word sanctifies. We must come into this victorious life that God has prepared for us by allowing His creative word to recreate our hearts and sustain the new life of Christ in us.
There is no sinning Christian, “He that committeth sin is of the devil… whosoever is born of God does not commit sin… and he cannot sin, because he is born of God” (1 John 3:8-9).
The word of God has the power not only to cleanse from sin but to keep you from sinning (Psalms 119:9,11). As you allow the truth of God’s word in your life, you will be transformed into the pattern life of Jesus Christ.
There is victory for you in God’s word. Believe it and apply it to your life.
REFLECTION
Holiness is the prerequisite for seeing God. No sinner would ever see His face.
PRAYER
Father, please sanctify me by the truth in your word that I may see you at the end of my life.
