MESSAGE
Some people are not meant to journey with you in life. They will only be extra luggage and weights dragging you backwards on your journey to heaven.
These people will cause strive, bring arguments, distract your attention and may deny you of God’s inheritance. In one of our lessons, we emphatically expressed that you must be watchful of the company of people
you keep so that you can reach your heavenly goal.
It does not matter how close they are to you, or how long they have been in your life or around you, you must separate from these people.
Abraham took Lot his cousin on the journey of destiny, but he became a load to him. In our reading portions of the day, we saw the tension that began to arise between Abram and Lot’s herdsmen.
Some believers are still hanging out with their old sinful friends in a cordial way, this should not be. They will sooner or later drag you back into the world. You must separate yourself.
This separation is first to God, that you will be holy as He who called you is Holy. A desire to please the master at all times and walk in His ways (1 Peter 1:15-16).
You must separate yourself from the pollution of this world. You must come out of those things that used to give you pleasure. Now you must present yourself unto God a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to Him (Romans 12:1).
Part of the separation also involves zero conformity to the worldly pattern but a resolute desire to measure up unto the image of Christ (Romans 12:2).
Be intentional about this, learn from Abram. Until he parted ways with Lot God never came back to speak with him. Lot also became a burden to him. He had to rescue Lot when he was captured and also pray for his deliverance from the destruction of Sodom.
Your journey will be light and smooth if you walk with believers whose heart burns for the Lord. Those who share the same vision of holiness and heaven with you. They will help you grow and become better.
Are you in an abusive relationship or marriage? You must separate yourself and seek godly counsel. Do not stay until you sustain a serious physical or emotional injury. Come out, speak out and seek counsel. Keep praying until God touches the heart of the man or woman.
This is the more reason God is asking you to separate yourself from every distraction and thing that pull you down into sin.
The sinner must separate himself from his sin and come to God for pardon and such will be received by Him (Isaiah 55:6-7).
REFLECTION
Make a list of people who you need to separate yourself from and begin to prayerfully act on it.
PRAYER
Father, please give me the strength to separate myself from the people and things that have been a distraction to my Christian faith.
