Marital Principles: Pay The Price

MESSAGE

Almost every culture has a concept of bride price. The Bible established that the servant of Abraham paid the price for the damsel. The price paid is not to buy the bride, but as a token of honour and respect to the parent who has raised the woman from infancy to the point whereby she is eligible for marriage.

Do not steal a bride and don’t run away with a man. Anyone who does not pay the price has stolen the bride. While I was living in India one of the common news we hear then is of young people running away with each other all in the name of love. This is not allowed in Christian marriage.

After you have identified God’s perfect choice for your life, you must follow all the due marital processes required by the church, and the ones in your culture which is not a sin against God.

When you consider our text and the reading of the day, you will see that the servant of Abraham went through the due process. He requested the hand of the girl in marriage from her family and then paid the price.

Those who run away with their spouse usually miss the parental blessings. This in the long run may affect their homes. The foundation upon which such homes are built is faulty, therefore when the storms and challenges of life come, such a house will fall and crumble (Matthew 7:24-27).

Be a wise man, don’t build your house on a faulty foundation. Pay the price. In case you have built your home on a faulty foundation by not paying the price for your spouse, you can still make amends for this by going back to your inlaws to pay the price. Every runaway bride should return home and ask for the forgiveness of their parents.

REFLECTION

Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 KJV

No thief will inherit the kingdom of God. Those who have stolen or run away with their spouse run an even greater risk of missing the kingdom of God. You must repent today and make necessary restitutions.

PRAYER

Father, Please help me pay the price and follow all the due processes in marital pursuit.
