MESSAGE
The reward for obedience and walking with God is not seasonal but generational. When a man obeys God, he is sowing a seed for His future descendants.
Of course, we all know that the reward of disobedience is also the same. For example, one man Adam disobeyed God and all men in Adam became alienated from God. It took the obedience of another man Christ Jesus to recover and restore the human race back to God (Romans 5:19).
If the consequence of obedience is that serious, parents for the sake of their children must ensure that they obey God in all things. Remember how Achan brought the reward of disobedience not only upon himself but his entire family (Joshua 7:24). We must do well to follow God in all our ways.
In our text and reading of the day, God said to Isaac: I am going to bless you and make you so great because of your Father Abraham. God was saying, whatever I am doing for you is because of the faith and obedience of your father. Will you desire that God deals with your children based on your relationship with HIM?
A good father the Bible says leaves an inheritance for his children. There is no greater inheritance that you can give than to walk with God in obedience and secure a generational blessing for them. What inheritance are you leaving behind for your children? This calls for serious self-examination.
But how can you obey the God you don’t know, talk less of securing blessings for your future children. This is why you must ensure that you are born again genuinely and not just merely religious. Your heart must be right with God and you must train your children just as Abraham trained his son Isaac.
REFLECTION
Eli who failed in obeying God failed his entire generation. He brought a generational curse upon his future descendants.
PRAYER
Father, please help me to secure a generational blessing for my children through obedience.
