Desire More

And so it was, when they had crossed over, that Elijah said to Elisha, “Ask! What may I do for you, before I am taken away from you?” Elisha said, “Please let a double portion of your spirit be upon me.”

2 Kings 2:9 NKJV

MESSAGE

God does not force anything on a man. What He does many times is to make invitations, announcements, or advertisements for what He wants to give to the sons of men. In the book of John 7:37-38, we saw the Lord making an outstanding invitation to bless all who will come.

On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”
John 7:37‭-‬38 NKJV

It was as if Jesus was saying to us, look this is available but also subject to you desiring it. Though is free and available for all, I cannot force it on you. Indeed there is more available in God if you will dare to want more. Why should you have little of the limitless God when you can possess all of Him?

If you will grow spiritually, you must hunger and thirst for it. If you want to operate in the supernatural, you must also do the same. There is no other secret to being great in God.

The children of the world understand and take advantage of this power of desire. These godless people become so hungry for their wicked desires that they do anything to achieve or get them. Of such men was Ahab who was so desperate to get Naboth’s vineyard, that he would not even eat until by wicked counsel and action he had gotten it. Another man was Amnon who also desire something evil and would not eat until his lust was satisfied (Read 1 Kings 21 and 2 Samuel 13).

Oh that God’s children would be desperate for God and His righteousness also. How greatly would you be used by God if you desperately desire His grace and power? Look at Elisha in our Bible reading of the day. He was not ready to be an ordinary prophet, the stakes were high for him. He had left something behind and it would not make sense if ends up an ordinary prophet. Through persistence and desperation, he defied the ridicule of other sons of the prophet. He wanted more, even the double power of God working in Elijah’s life. God rewarded his desire and he became a father to kings. All those other prophets mocking him came to bow to him.

Do not limit God, you can get more than what you can ever ask Him for. God will not violate His law however, only those who are hungry and thirsty for more of Him will He satisfy.
Are you tired of this weak Christian life that lacks power? Desire more from God and he will give you the desires of your heart.

REFLECTION

And he said, “Please, show me Your glory.”

Exodus 33:18 NKJV

That was Moses’ prayer for more of God, and he got it. You can also ask for more of God today, He won’t deny you.

PRAYER

Father, I want more of you today.
