MESSAGE
Do you know that Jesus may ask you to sell something as part of the cost of following Him? The Bible says that you no longer belong to yourself because you have been bought with a price.
Contrary to everything you might have heard from modern teachers and preachers, nothing is off the limit when it comes to giving up something to follow Jesus.
In Luke 5, Peter made the biggest business gain ever in His career, but Jesus presented to him something bigger than a truckload of fish. Thank God Peter made the smartest option which is to follow Jesus. Peter left all the fish behind and became a follower of Christ, a move that will turn him into a fisher of men.
Someone would say, why would the Lord ask him to follow Him? It is because what Jesus is offering is bigger and better. In the book Acts of the Apostles, you will see that that decision eventually paid off. Peter’s shadow was healing th sick.
In our text of the day, the Bible told us the story of a young rich ruler who was wealthy and had kept th laws, but Jesus told him to go sell off his goods and follow him. That young man went away sorrowfully and missed the true eternal riches. Because of his earthly riches, he missed the eternal life that Christ is offering him.
What a sad story, that man gained the whole world and lost his soul because he was not willing to give up his wealth for Jesus. Beloved, is there something in your life that God has been asking you to give up to gain eternal life?
Stop resisting the hands of God and allow Him to work out His eternal purpose in your life. Remember, he that loves his life will lose it but anyone who gives up his life for Christ’s sake shall gain it. Has the Lord taken anything from you and you have become bitter and angry? You must make your peace with God today. The end will be beautiful.
REFLECTION
Is there anything too precious that you can’t sell for Christ? Nothing is worth your salvation, therefore, be ready to let go of anything that Christ points to.
PRAYER
Father, please help me to always be ready to give everything for Christ’s sake.
