MESSAGE
As we are about to cross over into the new year, there is only one marching order “Go Forward”. Though the enemy may be advancing from behind and the troubling sea of difficulty before you, God’s word is for you to move forward.
It is very easy to develop cold feet at this point. Fear may grip your heart so strongly. Disappointment and failures of the closing year may be colossal, yet you can’t but press forward. Rather than crying and fearful, obey the Captain’s order – the Lord of Host commands you to go on.
The red sea will give way, and the enemy will be drowned in the sea, but you must go into the new year having full confidence in God. Do not fret at the rumbling and tumbling chaos around you, rather trust in the Lord and do good, surely you shall dwell safely in the coming year and you shall be well-fed (Psalms 37:1-3).
God told Joshua, don’t be afraid, neither be dismayed, just as I was with Moses, I will also be with you. The same must be said about you, that the God of heaven and earth will be with you. Forget the sorrow and the problems of the past, don’t look back at them at all because God will do a new thing. He will do something almost impossible to believe for you, He will make a way for you in the wilderness and bring forth waters in the desert (Isaiah 43:18-19).
His promise for you is that He will be your refuge and shield and that He will help you at every phase of the journey. Just as the Lord bare the Israelites upon the wings of the Eagle, He will also carry you into your promised. Move forward Jordan will give way, March forward, Jericho will fall down flat. Nothing can hinder you from coming into your rest.
Finally, the Lord has promised that His presence will go with you into the new year and you will have rest (Exodus 33:14). Only those who do not have Christ will not have the rest that God has promised. Therefore if you are not a child of God yet, yield this solemn invitation that God is giving you today:
Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
Matthew 11:28-30 NKJV
Do not hesitate to accept this invitation. Jesus is the only One who can give you rest in the coming year. Don’t spend the coming year in the same troubled life of sin and fear, come to Jesus and have rest from fear and the troubles of life associated with sin.
REFLECTION
God has already gone ahead of us into the new year. He will never leave us nor forsake us. Therefore, don’t be afraid because it is the Lord our God who will fight all battles for us.
PRAYER
Father, please drown every spirit of fear in me as I cross over into the new year. I walk in Your promise to be with me and my family by faith in Jesus’ Name. Amen
