Guard Your Eyes 2

Text: Matthew 18:9 NKJV

Further Reading: 1 John 2:15-17

And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you. It is better for you to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to be cast into hell fire.

Matthew 18:9 NKJV

MESSAGE

Anything can be a blessing or a curse, it all depends on how that thing is used. For example, sex is good in marriage, but cheap sex outside marriage attracts divine judgment. God says that whormongers and adulterers will be judged by Him (Hebrew 13:4).

In the same light, having eyes is a blessing, but if you refuse to use them the proper way, they can lead you to serious errors. Remember, many people have no eyes at all, so you must not abuse the opportunity to see.

That’s why the Lord says in our reading of the day that if your eyes cause you to stumble, remove them. It means that if you dont guard your eyes intentionally, it may cause you to sin and send you to hell. Great men have been destroyed because they won’t keep their eyes away from strange women. Yesterday, we noted how Samson’s eyes became a death trap for him.

You must be deliberate about what you watch and where you go. The devil has introduced in many Christian homes the spirit of immorality through pornographic content. The argument is that it does not matter as long as both couples are the ones watching it. We know from research, pornography has been one of the causes of trouble even in marriage today. You must stay off it.

The Bible told us that only those who looked at the serpent were saved, so you can use your eyes to behold wondrous things out of the word of God (Psalms 119:18). Instead of allowing your eyes to look at strange men and women, you can make your eyes a tool in God’s hands to enrich your spiritual life.

One thing you must also be careful of is the lust of the eyes. You must learn to control yourself. It is not everything that you must get. Beware of covetousness, because a man is not measured by the amount of things that he possesses. Learn to be content with what you have. Let the peace of God rule your heart even when you have nothing you are rejoicing in Christ.

REFLECTION

The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.

Psalms 19:8 NKJV

Keep God’s law always before your eyes and you will never stumble.

PRAYER

Father, please help me to always fix my eyes on your words. Please don’t let me ever stumble.
