MESSAGE
Every action a man performs is a direct mirror of the condition of his heart. The truth is that a man can not act beyond his thoughts. The Bible says that as a man thinks in his heart so is he (Proverbs 23:7). That Bible verse has a direct implication on human behavior as we see in society.
People with wicked and sinful heart tends to do awful things, while people with good heart do good things. But even good people without a renewed mind will find themselves doing the wrong things.
The Bible tells us that the human heart in its fallen nature is desperately wicked and full of deceit, only God can know it (Jeremiah 17:9). Many people in this nature however hard they try to be good find themselves falling short of goodness.
They want to be good but find it impossible. This is because only the blood of Jesus Christ can make a heart clean (1 John 1:7-9). Also, Christians who are born again have the need to feed their mind with the sincere milk of the word of God.
Never forget that God’s word is a purifier, it has the power to purify the heart of men. Jesus said in John 15:3 that you are cleansed by His word. Also, He prayed that Christain will be made cleansed (holy) by the word of God (John 17:17). The word of God will expose a man to himself, and it will show the man the real status of His heart. It is the real mirror by which a man sees himself and adjusts his life.
The Bible says in Romans 12:1-2, that you be renewed in your mind. This renewal involves non-conformity with the world. You must not forget that your mind can store and process information which later becomes your action.
What then are you feeding into your mind? What are the things that you allow to go through the eye and ear gates into your heart? If they are unholy things, they will likely form a base for unholy thoughts and later unholy actions, but if you feed your mind with godly things, you can be sure that you will have godly virtue coming out of you.
Finally, you must put on the new man who is renewed after the knowledge of Christ (Colossians 3:10). By this, Christians must actively meditate upon God’s word and pray without ceasing. Be deliberate to learn every virtue that is in Christ who is the author and finisher of our faith.
