MESSAGE
God wants His children to give to the poor and other causes but He also want us to give the right way. The Lord commended the woman who broke the alabaster box for her heart of giving. Just as every other things the Christian does, God is more interested in our motives. If your motive for giving to the poor is for a show, then you have received your reward of men.
In our text and reading of the day, Jesus gave us the guidelines for which we must follow while giving alms. The first thing the Lord said was that you should not he hypocritical about it. The Lord used the word, “don’t blow your trumpet”.
Another thing the Lord said was that you must not give in front of everybody, if possible you should do it secretly. That way, God who sees in the secrete will reward you openly. Some people give because of what they want in returns, such way of thinking will only block them from receiving divine blessing.
Another lesson is that you must not give beyond your means. Jesus said, But rather give alms of such things as you have; then indeed all things are clean to you. Luke 11:41 NKJV.
You are blessed to bless others, you are enabled to enable others. As a believer you must go beyond the stage of giving to the poor but also imparting spiritual benefits to them just as Peter and John did in Acts 3. This means that you must be a serious carrier of God’s anointing and power. Believers are called to go into the world bind the broken hearted and be of help to the poor just as Jesus their Lord.
You must not forget that Jesus want you to do greater works, therefore seek the power of the Holy Spirit to get to the level of anointing to meet the spiritual need of the poor. God is counting on us to be His ambassador and light in this generation, don’t let Him down.
REFLECTION
Even if the one you give to can not pay back, by the law of sowing and reaping God will compensate you and you will be rewarded greatly. So, keep giving to the poor.
PRAYER
Father, please give me the heart to always give to the poor and needy around me.
