MESSAGE
The attitude of Christ toward the great commission is so great, it is a priority business for Christ. Jesus said that He came to seek and save those who are lost. In John 4:34, Jesus said his meat was to do the will of His father, which is to call many unto eternal life. This should set a template for every child of God.
You are called to Christ to bring or lead others to Christ. This statement can’t be truer in the life of the disciples. The Bible says,
“Then He appointed twelve, that they might be with Him and that He might send them out to preach. “
Mark 3:14 NKJV
The result of this was to train them and later send them out. In our text and reading of the day, we saw Jesus sending them out to preach the good news of God to the Jews. They were to go and preach the message of Christ, which is for men to repent because God’s kingdom is near.
They are to go preaching and healing the sick and delivering all those who are oppressed by the devil. The same is expected of Christians today. We are responsible to go sharing with the world the good news of Christ. Jesus gave the early disciples this mandate and this mandate is extended to you.
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
Matthew 28:19-20 NKJV
How actively engaged are you with evangelism and missions? Are you a Christian who sits behind and do nothing about the perishing souls out there? Jesus wants us to go get them with the assurance of power and great protection (Mark 16:17-19).
The Lord also shared that only through prayer to God can souls be reached. Prayer is a catalyst for soul-winning. In Matthew 9:37-38, after acknowledging the fact that there are so many souls to be reached with few laborers, the Lord asked us to pray that God would send more laborers into his field.
If you complain that you can not go, can you also not pray? Everyone can at least pray for someone who needs salvation around them.
The Lord however warns against proselytizing like other religious people, rather we must point men to the person of Christ, not religion. You must take the lesson from Jesus by using the same approach. Summarily, Jesus wants you to share your faith with others and bring them to Him. How far are you doing this?
REFLECTION
Evangelism is God’s heartbeat for the world, how often do you reach out to souls? You have not received the Holy Spirit for a Show, but so that you can tell others about Jesus with boldness.
PRAYER
Father, please grant me more zeal to bring many souls into the kingdom.
