Dealing With Storms

Text: Marks 4:37

Further Reading: Mark 4:35-41

And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling.

Mark 4:37 NKJV

MESSAGE

As I read the entire Bible reading of the day, it got me wondering why would the Lord be in the boat and yet the storm will still arise. Should the storm not respect Jesus who was obviously in the boat and chose not to attack? What lesson can we learn from this as believers going through storms and challenging times?

We can take a cue from the word of Christ who said in this world we would face tribulations or storms but with the assurance that victory is guaranteed. The past few days for me have been tough and stormy and it made me doubt if the Master was with me a times.

In my mind, I thought if the Master was there this and that issue should not be coming up again. I had tried to assume that maybe the Master was not with me anyways on the ship. But as I read the word of God, I realized that the Master is still with me and my ship will never capsize.

But how do we deal with such turbulence when we are in the will of God? What do you do to situations that keep falling around us and we seem to have no answer for? How do we deal with the emotional troubles that come with the storms?

The first thing to note is that God is our refuge and strength, our very present help in times of trouble (Psalms 46:1). The fact that the situation looked very tense should not rob you of knowing that God is in control and He will take care of the storm.

Satan wants us worked up and afraid. He magnifies the storms such that we stop looking up to Jesus the Author and Finisher of our faith. Don’t ever take your eyes off Jesus even in your most dangerous storm. This is because Christ the Prince of Peace can speak peace to the storm.

Rather than being discouraged and worried, you can put on the shield of faith knowing that God has not given you the spirit of fear, but of Power, Love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). Your victory will surely come.

REFLECTION

God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved; God shall help her, just at the break of dawn.

Psalms 46:5 NKJV

God will help you, He will even show up on time. So, you don’t have to worry about your storms because God will take care of them through His word.

PRAYER

Father, please speak peace into every stormy situation in my life.
