MESSAGE
Keeping cool and maintaining composure during hard times is the most difficult thing to do. It becomes even more difficult when the odds are against you. When there is nothing of human ability or flesh that can help you. At that time you must firmly trust in God.
Today, we will be looking at the story of Jehoshaphat and how he trusted God and won an impossible battle. Often when we read this type of account in the Bible we think these men were not ordinary but they were. They also had fear, but they allowed God to take care of their fear.
Our text of the day recorded when Jehoshaphat got the news of the enemies’ invasion he was afraid. He knew if God did not help, none could. This godly King did what many of us would not do, he threw himself at the mercy of God.
Jehoshaphat called for a national day of fasting and prayer. How beautiful would it be if our national leaders could declare such a day in our nations? We are faced with worse situations on the economic, moral, and spiritual fronts. In a time when everybody seems clueless as to what can be done to the economy and decay in the society, a complete repentance and turning to God will do it (2 Chronicles 7:14).
On a personal level, you should as a principle emulate the example of Jehoshaphat in difficult situations. Don’t trust in your ability or rely on someone to help you; but put your absolute trust in God (Psalms 20:7-8).
Even when the instructions they got did not fully make sense, Judah still trusted God. Even when they had singing as a battle strategy, they believed that God would give them victory and He did. If you will trust God with your problems today, He will give you the idea of solving them. Such an idea may be unconventional but you can be sure that it will lead you to victory.
No enemy can defeat you when you turn the battle over to the Lord with the confidence that He will give you victory. Just as the Lord fought for Judah and defeated all their enemies, so also will the Lord fight for you and defeat all your problems.
There is one amazing benefit that came to Jehoshaphat and Judah when they trusted God.
Then the realm of Jehoshaphat was quiet, for his God gave him rest all around.
II Chronicles 20:30 NKJV
