Miracles By Mercy II

Text: Luke 18:35-43 KJV

And it came to pass, that as he was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side begging: And hearing the multitude pass by, he asked what it meant. And they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth passeth by. And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me. And they which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the more, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me. And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto him: and when he was come near, he asked him, Saying, What wilt thou that I shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight. And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee. And immediately he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God: and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise unto God.
Luke 18:35‭-‬43

MESSAGE

From our previous lesson, we noted that only mercy can qualify a man for a miracle. Though the impotent man at the pool of Bethesda did nothing, had no faith, expected no miracle yet mercy gave him his deliverance. May we receive God’s mercy for an unprecedented miracle in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Let me reecho this truth again: mercy does not excuse a man from taking up his responsibility where he ought to. Mercy is no licence for slothfulness, laziness, and wastefulness. You must do what you ought to do to the best of your ability. Mercy comes in to give you what your ability cannot. Do not hide under the guise of mercy to be lazy. No scriptural truth destroys or contradicts another. The hand of the diligent shall bear rule and a diligent man will stand before kings and not ordinary men. So while mercy would bring what you do not deserve, you are expected to do your best under all circumstances.

Today we saw in our text a man in darkness, he had heard of Jesus passing through Jericho, he had probably heard of the miracles of Jesus. It was a one-time shot, not knowing if the opportunity will present itself again, with too many people following Jesus, he cried out for mercy – Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me. For him he would not allow anybody to silence him, though men told him to keep quiet, his appeal was to Mercy. He cried so much louder than he had done previously until Mercy was secured. Once the mercy was secured, his Miracle was guaranteed.

He prayed a prayer which must not depart from our mouths: Jesus, have mercy on me. His prayer for mercy touched the Lord, the blind man came by the way of mercy, and mercy cannot be denied. Clearly, we see faith cry out for mercy – though he had faith, it was mercy that brought the miracle. Jesus called for him and he received his sight.

Since Adam’s fall, sin has plunged the entire world into darkness leaving men without hope and assurance of eternity. Many wanted the light and have tried several ways but have not found the inner peace they sought. In vain the yogist meditates and finds himself more depressed. The wages of sin is death, and the guilt hangs upon his neck. Only Jesus truly brings light into a darkened life – He is the light of the world. No matter how thick darkness is in your life, allow Jesus to shine upon you and you will be free when you call out to him for mercy.

Are you in the darkness of sinful habits, perversion, pilfering, debt, poverty, barrenness, sickness, and so on? Do you desire the miracle of being translated out of darkness into the light? A total Freedom from sin and its guilt? Cry out like this man, Lord have mercy upon me. Do not cover your sins, expose them to mercy, and it would bring victory rather than judgment. Wait no longer friend, you are one step away from receiving a grand miracle in your life if you will only cry out for mercy – mercy for your salvation, mercy for spiritual and physical healing, mercy for the transformation of life, and all the mercies you need is in Jesus Christ.

Quit lingering in darkness, cry for mercy.

REFLECTION

He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.
Proverbs 28:13 KJV

Stop covering your sins, stay no longer in darkness – confess and forsake your sinful ways and you will receive mercy.

God bless you and have a great day.
