MESSAGE
One thing that is common among men and women who became great in God is a radical passion against mediocrity. I mean, they wanted everything they can get in God and from God. They are not desperate for mundane things of life but for the real things of God. They are not bread-and-butter Christians asking for only temporal things of life but substantial things of eternal value.
We have spoken about Moses and his desire to see God’s glory. The same Moses was not willing to go with an angel but God Himself. Moses knew the price and paid the price, he knew he had to climb the mountain, it was not a business of the valley. There he met with God and saw the glory of the God of heaven and earth (Exodus 33, 34).
Beyond the fame and glamour, you must remember that there is a price to pay. In 1 kings 18, the Bible introduced an unnamed servant of Elijah who faithfully followed his master even in confronting the prophets of Baal. But in 1 kings 19, he was dropped and never amounted to anything. Compared with Elisha in 2 kings 2, the first servant of Elijah was not willing to go the extra mile but Elisha would not even allow anything to rob him of the double portion of the Spirit of God upon Elijah.
By implication, the more desperate you are to get more of God the more you will get. The bigger your expectation of a miracle, the extra mile you go to get it. The woman of Shunem in our reading of the day would not mind her status. She needed to see her dead son come back to life, so she told the servant who was driving her, don’t slow down for me. To her it doesn’t matter if the servant rides roughly, she must get her miracle and that’s the priority.
That woman didn’t stop there, when she got to the mountaintop, she would not want Gehazi to follow her, it was Elisha or she won’t leave. It was with similar desperation that Jacob must have cried to the angel “I will not let you go unless you bless me”. This was no mere prayer, it was offered in great desperation.
Friends, do you want to know more about God? Would you want to experience supernatural dimensions? Are expecting a major miracle? You must be willing to go the extra mile.
REFLECTION
Because of Elisha’s desperation, he got what no other son of the prophet can get. He went an extra mile to get it even in the face of mockery. You must forge that mindset from today.
PRAYER
Father, I receive the strength and grace to go the extra mile until I come into the fullness of God’s grace and power.
