You Are Not Indispensable

Text: Matthew 3:9

Further Reading: Matthew 3:5-10

And do not think to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.

Matthew 3:9 NKJV

MESSAGE

God is supreme and He can use anyone and anything to full His counsel. When the Pharisees were complaining about people worshiping Christ at the triumphant entry, He simply told them that stones will cry out instead.

But He answered and said to them, “I tell you that if these should keep silent, the stones would immediately cry out.”
Luke 19:40 NKJV

This means that as Paul said we are not sufficient in ourselves but in Christ because in Him (Christ), we live, move, and have our existence. We owe everything to Him. Whatever ability or talent we have is given by Him so, we know that we are simply a beneficiary of His mercy.

One of the most incredible statements we ever found in the Bible our text of the day. The fact that God can raise children for Abraham from stones. That is mind-blowing. Similarly let not of us who are saved think of ourselves as anything other than sinners saved by Grace.

This should set us on the side of caution by dealing faithfully with God. The fact that you are saved is your entitlement but a privilege. Therefore you must guard your salvation with fear and trembling. You cannot say, I am now under the grace of God and living in sin, No! (Romans 6:1-2).

Take note God can decide to save the worst of criminals and replace anyone with Him. Whatever you do for God is also a privilege, therefore do it with all your heart. It must be done happily and cheerfully as unto the Lord.

REFLECTION

For if God did not spare the natural branches, He may not spare you either.

Romans 11:21 NKJV

Believers must stand firm in the liberty of Christ and not assume that he is covered by grace to live anyhow. We have been bought with a huge price.

PRAYER

Father, please help me to keep walking before you in holiness and purity of life.
