MESSAGE
One of the signs of immaturity in anyone is the idea that you are better than others. The self-love that makes you think that you have gotten everything because you worked so hard than others and you deserved it. Have you not met people who have this trait of self-importance even in the Christian circle who would boast about what they did to get what they have spiritually?
Unfortunately, those people forget that no one receives anything except what is given from above. The truth is that hard work pays, but not all those who work hard make a better life. Let me show you how the Bible puts it:
I have seen another thing that happens here on the earth. The runner who runs fastest does not always win the race. The strongest soldiers do not always win the battle. Very wise people do not always have food to eat. Very clever people do not always become rich. People who have learned many things are not always successful. Yes, anything may happen to anyone at any time.
Ecclesiastes 9:11 EASY
What this means is that whatever we have or have become is not because of us but because God chose to have mercy on us. What if the farmer plants and God does not send rain? What happens when a natural disaster wipes everything out in a scoop?
Rather than having a feeling of self-importance, it’s better to show gratitude. Never think like the rich fool in our text and reading of the day who lost everything because he felt he had done it all by himself and he deserved to have a life of pleasure all the way.
Always remember that everything is by God’s grace. Be humble to recognize this and never look down on the people around you.
REFLECTION
What you have is not because of who you are or your ability, it is because of God’s mercy.
PRAYER
Father, help me to be humble and never to look down on others. Give me a meek and lowly heart and attitude.
